Urbanization & Industrialization

RECAP
The start of the revolution was when the energy source switched from steam to steel. Britain became anew industrial power. Other nations caught up to Brittan because they other nations had more resource. Germany and the USA surpassed Britain's powerful industrial powers. Russia had the resources to advance but had social and political problems. Industrialization was rapid urbanization which is growth of cities. The factories were good because they made goods cheaper to make and but. But factories cause health problems because the factory workers worked long hours bad conditions and low pay. People moved to cities because they wanted work. The cities were dirty places. There were new advances like science ,bridges ,railroads, medicine hospitals side walks skyscrapers and much more.


REVISIT & REFLECT
I pick Pensacola Florida because it is very interesting. One reason is interesting is it has an amazing beach. Another reason I find Pensacola interesting is because I have family that live there and it is great when I visit. I love the penscola light house it can bee seens 27 miles out when the light its flashing! A bad thing about living in pensacola is there are many tourest.

Nationalism

RECAP


Nationalism is people being faithful to where they live. It is being patriotic. nationalism gives people the feeling they have the power but most of the time that isn't true. Rulers usually used nationalism to get the people to follow them and changed once he had the people on his side. Nationalism had its rise in Germany. Then nationalism united more than germany but germany was the first. All the German states are now united and make up Germany.

REVIEW


Our group had to talk about how Italy was unified. We summed it up and pulled out the major points really well, We pulled out the important people like Victor who was the king. My groups had costumes that really helped with knowing who the person was and we made extra people to make the puppet show work better.

Unifying Italy compared to unifying Germany I think was essayer. Unifying Italy was economically smarter. Italy wanted nationalism and it worked for them because it made trade easier which helped with money. When Germany was being unified the Germans thought that they were doing it for themselves and for there country but Bismarck had his own reasons for uniting Germany. He was tricking the people.



REFLECT AND REINVENT

Nationalism is a good ideology. It gets a the country or group to unite for the rights and things they all want. The whole country goes threw the same things with hunger or poverty or government and most of the time religion. If there was a common goal for everyone like there is in a country than it would help unite if we all had the same needs. But I dint think that will happen because not all countries are equal in wealth or advancements and some countries still have problems getting there basic needs. If countries helped each other catch up to the standard and all had there basic needs meet I think than nationalism would be more useful.

Summary of Semester Numero 1

REFLECTION
At the start of the year I did not remember everything from last year but I remembered a good amount. But from when school started I have not only relearned information from last year but learned new information. Something I can do now is when people talk about current events I know what they mean because in class we learn history but also current things and how that relates to the history of that country or people. I understand more about poorer countries and why they are that way and about countries in the Middle East and Africa. I learned that I learn better when its repeated and we go over something more than once I learned that all work is important to do for Mrs Lawson's class and all classes. I was not a fan of the GGS project because it was different and hard at first but I realized it was not as hard as I thought I still wouldn't do it again because it was a good project it just wasn't my favorite. I did like the Afghanistan project not so much making the book but I liked learned about Afghanistan because I researched opium and it interested me so I actually wanted to researched it and sense it was a current problem I thought it served more of a purpose. I need to do work if it is interesting to me or not. But if what we learned was tied to current events more often I think it would help me. I am enjoying the way we are doing the midterm too.

Guns Germ and Steal

RECAP
I learned so much from watching the 3 episodes of GGS or Guns Germs and Steel. I learned that guns helped the Europeans advance in war. Also that germs were killing people that European came in contact with and that the Europeans didn't know it until the people started dying. The Europeans had became immune to the disease they carried with there animals. Steel helped people advance because it was used for swords and machines and other equipment. But Europeans would not have had these three things if they had not lived where they did. There geography gave them domesticated animals that carried germs and helped there immune systems build up, it gave them soil that was very good for growing food, it also gave them iron that could be mined and made into steel. These things lead them to advance while other people could not.

REVISIT

In 1961 there was a constitution formed that favored white people in power. In 1965 the government declared its independence.


The UN is appealing for 378 million dollars for Zimbabwe so that Zimbabwe, a poor country, can buy food and medicine and help with sanitation and hospitals. In the first three months of 2010 almost 2 million people will need help getting food. Cholera is re appearing now that it is in the rainy season its a dicease that is passed threw water and in 2008 killed a little under 5000 people.

Minerals are a key to economic growth of a country. Zimbabwe is a country that attracts foreigners because of its beauty. The country used to be a land of milk and honey. but the trees where the bees made one have been cut down or burned. Things have changed with Zimbabwe's changes.

REFLECT

The impact of geographical luck is not fair. But I am fine with it because where I live is not poor because of it. But if i was to live in a place that was stuck in poverty because of geography I would be really mad. I would wonder what did people do to have to be so unequal. The geographical luck is the cause for many thing, it causes wars, prejudices, and other social issues. Some people think other races are lazy because they are not as advanced but its not there fault. different locations have different religions because what happens in your life changes what you believe in. But geographical luck is not fair but cant be changed so it should just be made the best of.

Opium in Afghanistan

My book of the growth of opium farming was okay but lacked a lot information. If I was to put more statistics I think I would have been better. I had every 3 or so and how much opium was harvested. My book would have been better with a chart that had each years amount of opium harvested and why it went up by that number that year. I learned that Afghanistan produces the most opium. They produced over 8000 metric tons of opium in 2007 and in 1996 they only produced a little over 2000 metric tons. I learned the Taliban tried to stop Afghanistan from farming opium in 2000 and in 2001 the they only produced less than 500 metric tones that year! That's crazy!

REVISIT
In September of 2000 the Talibanbans opium farming. Afghanistan is the leading producer of heroin in the world. In 2001 when Afghanistan couldn't farm opium it raised prices for heroin a little but was not really noticed. But in 2003 the effects were realized.

Now opium farming is down if Afghanistan as of September. it had dropped 22 percent. Now 20 out of 34 Provence in Afghanistan are opium free. Opium this year is now at at the lowest price its been in 10 years. There are now 60 less hecta-achers in Afghanistan that are harvesting opium.

REFLECT

Opium is there main source of income. Its used for heroin and that's wrong but its how people in rural areas in Afghanistan get money. So in my opinion it is fine for them to get the money even though opium harms people and is bad for them. The people are just trying to provide for there families. The government allows the farming because it bring a lot of money to Afghanistan but the government also takes a lot of the money. Not everyone will agree on if it should be legal or not but i think for them it should be.
